My name is Everly, and I’m a junior at Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, California. I started Long Beach Kids Closet in the summer of 2024 with a simple goal - to make sure every child in Long Beach has the school uniforms they need to feel confident, prepared, and ready to learn. What began with just one summer event has grown into partnerships with local elementary schools across Long Beach as well as the Boys and Girls Club. In 2025, I founded the Long Beach Kids Closet club at Wilson High School to connect students with service opportunities in our community.
What is Long Beach Kids Closet?
Long Beach Kids Closet was born out of a simple mission: making sure every child in Long Beach has school uniforms, outerwear and shoes so that they can feel confident and ready to learn. Our team collects new and gently used clothing donations from families and our elementary school partners across the city. Volunteers sort, wash and prepare the items we receive. We then distribute them directly to children and families through student-run pop-up events held at local elementary schools. Since our first pop-up in the fall of 2024, we have distributed almost 2,000 items through partnerships with Grant Elementary, Ceasar Chavez Elementary, Addams Elementary and Signal Hill Elementary. As of the spring of 2026, we have held 8 pop-up events and run clothing drives at Naples Elementary, Lowell Elementary, Fremont Elementary, Prisk Elementary and Cubberly Elementary.
